Canada Day!

Canada Day was marvelous! The weather was fabulous. Clear and sunny all day was certainly a welcome change to rain we received during the month of June this year. It must have rained almost everyday in June.

We started the day off with a trip to Starbucks after breakfast. Not an everyday occurence, but it was very nice to sit on the patio and read in the sunshine. Then it was cycling time. We went for a 60 km bike ride on our Co-Motion tandem. Traffic was fairly light today because of the holiday. Canada Day celebrations were evident everywhere. Petrie Island had a huge celebration on the beach. Our cycling trip took us past Petrie. Lots of people walking into the park and beach area. Those who weren't walking were being driven in by tractors towing wagons loaded with people. Police had roads closed off and many people were just parking on the shoulder. No problem for us to get through on the tandem though.

We continued on the bike path along the Ottawa River and went as far as the Aviation Museum where another celebration was in full swing. Several old WWII military aircraft that had likely performed at the air show in Carp over the weekend were parked on the runway. They were certainly drawing crowds of spectators too. We cycled as far as the Dairy Queen near the Canadian Police College where we both indulged ourselves with a chocolate dipped cone. Madam seems to be enjoying herself don't you think?

While at DQ, we received a phone call from the people who had bought our master bedroom furniture. They had rented a truck today and wanted to come by and pick it all up. Here we were over an hour from home on the tandem and we hadn't even emptied all the furniture of our things nor hauled the furntiture all downstairs yet! They were supposed to have given us a day's notice before showing up. Well how about 3 hours notice! Thankfully, we had a great tailwind for most of the ride home!

Soon as we arrived at home, Chris busied herself emptying all the drawers while I dismantled everything. We hauled it all down into the garage before they arrived at 8 pm with a full size Ford Econoline van from Hertz. Four ladies, and none of them really dressed to move furniture. So Chris and I did most of their loading as well. The van was not big enough to fit everything, so a return trip was necessary. We finally had the rest loaded on their second trip and sent them on their way at 11 pm.

We were exhausted! We laughed about our day and felt much better after a nice hot shower. At least the furniture is gone. Rooms are slowly emptying out throughout our home. Pretty sure tomorrow will be a rest day.....................

Petrie Island

We have been busy packing boxes these past few days and have also secured space in a storage facility close by. We've already moved some stuff into storage. Our hope is that we will only keep the bare essentials and that all the furniture will go in time. I placed ads on craigslist.com and also kijiji.com and have already had some responses.

The house passed inspection with flying colours and the new owners have secured financing, so our realtor tells us that the sale is now a done deal. Sold sign goes up tomorrow!

Chris starts work at CHEO tomorrow morning too and she is very excited about that.

We took a little break from the packing and went for a drive out to Petrie Island. We usually run in this area several times a week but there are also plenty of nature trails that we rarely visit. So we grabbed a Starbucks and headed off for a little stroll. It was already nearing 30C when we got there. We hiked all the way to the end of the nature trail and saw evidence of several turtle nests in the sandy beach area.

Two of them had been dug up and destroyed, probably by weasels, and had eggs scattered everywhere. What a tough life for turtles. They fight to make it into the world and even then there is no guarantee they won't become part of the food chain once they hatch and make it back to the river. Saw this little frog sitting in the middle of the footpath as well.

Chris saw this sign on the way home past Walmart. It would seem some kids have a good sense of humor. We got a chuckle out of it.

Got an Extra Day!!!

I saw this cartoon at RVtoons.com this morning. It kind of sums up what you see on the road down here from time to time. It is amazing to see what people are bringing with them, but when you consider that many people are fulltimer RVers, it makes a little more sense. We managed to get the one extra day here at Peace River that we were trying to get. The park is pretty full but Debbie managed to find a spot. So we don't leave until Feb 18th now. Then we are heading back to TT Orlando for 3 weeks.

Looks like our front air conditioner quit blowing cold air for us yesterday. Lazydays thinks it may be a capacitor in the a/c unit. We could smell something electrical in the air when we got back yesterday after pickleball. The rear a/c works alright. Unfortunately though, Lazydays can't get us in for repairs until Feb 22nd, so we'll have to decide whether to make the extra run to Lazydays from TT Orlando on Feb 22nd or to just wait until our next scheduled service on March 6th. If we can get a shady spot in Orlando, we'll just wait it out, if not, it will be a day to get repairs at Lazydays.
