We finally managed to get out of here around noon today and took a short drive over to the village of Celebration which is just off Hwy 192. It is a quaint community made up to look like America in the 60s. Lots of two story homes with porches and verandas line the streets. There is also a shopping district on Front St on the shore of a small lake.
We had lunch in a local tavern and then hit Starbucks for a nice coffee, while sitting on the edge of the lake and watching life go by. There are a lot of British tourists in this area and most of the hotels were full. There is an old style movie theatre on Front St as well as an ice cream shop and many souvenir shops as well. The village parks and sidewalks were immaculate.
Not a blade of grass out of place anywhere nor any litter. We followed a series of boardwalks and sidewalks around two of the small lakes in Celebration. Lots of wildlife to see. The main street was closed to traffic at 2 pm in order to prepare for a Christmas parade this evening. Apparantly, they even have snow machines that shoot out fake snow for the kids to enjoy. Our waitress told us the snow was soap based and that the kids have a great time playing in it.
We couldn't hang around for the parade this evening but will certainly check it out when we come back here for 4 days after Bee's RV Resort.
One gets the idea there is a lot of money around this area. Some homes were listed at $750K and more. Celebration Hotel had an old Cadillac limo on display that was in great shape. This community also uses NEVs (neighbourhood electric vehicles). They even have special parking spaces for them.
