Paynes Creek Historic State Park

Well, the weather has warmed up considerably from what it has been for the last two days. Wonder if that means only a 2 day winter? Doubtful, but one never knows.

We played pickleball again yesterday and then decided to go for a drive up past Wauchula to Bowling Green where we checked out Paynes Creek Historic State Park. It is small park for day time visits only. No camping allowed. We walked about the trails for an hour and also collected pine needles which we will use for a craft class next week. Chris and I will try making pine needle baskets. Should be quite interesting.

We are into our last week here at Peace River. We attended our first manager's meeting this morning. It was a full house. Some interesting questions raised. One of the biggest differences between this park and other larger parks, like Orlando, is that this park only has so many full service sites (water, electricity and sewer). The practice here, especially during peak season, is for new arrivals to be put into sites without sewer hookups for one night, perhaps two nights at the most, before being moved into a full service site as one becomes available. The larger parks are all first come, first served. Some of the long time members are not used to this rule and we have seen several jump the queue in the past few days, trying to stake out a full service site as soon as they arrive. So far the rangers are doing a good job, redirecting offenders to the overnight area but there are a few who don't like being chased off their newly claimed site. But basically, everyone is pretty understanding and plays by the rules.
